Is the United Methodist Church Splitting?

No.  To be clear, the United Methodist Church is not splitting. Instead, there is a group of churches, some in Louisiana, who are discerning whether now is the time to leave the denomination over the issue of ordination and marriage of LGBTQ persons.  This is an issue that has been debated for over 50 years, not only in our denomination, but in almost every other as well.

In recent years, a growing series of falsehoods, misinformation, and downright disinformation has been intentionally spread by some wishing to harm the United Methodist Church.  We call upon all people called Methodist to become informed about the truth of the matter and then prayerfully to discern the most faithful way forward.

“Though we cannot think alike, may we not love alike?

May we not be of one heart, though we are not of one opinion?

Without all doubt, we may."

--John Wesley
