Gretna UMC has been serving the community for over 125 years. Its mission is connecting diverse communities to a lifestyle devoted to Jesus with Rev. Jo Cooper as our pastor.

She is married to Ed and between them they have 3 children. She enjoys cooking, strong coffee, SEC sports (Geaux Tigers), and considers the French Quarter her happy place.

​

Pastor Jo became a UMC pastor in the Louisiana Conference in 2000 and serves as a Spiritual Director. She is also a mentor with Backstory Preaching and is currently serving as the vice-chair of the executive committee for the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana and the chairperson of the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry's Division of Local Pastors and Associate Members.

Being able to serve the church, conference, and greater community is not only a call for Pastor Jo, it is a way for her to live out her appreciation by giving back through acts of service.

​

On July 1, 2024, Pastor Jo will begin a new journey as the pastor of Henning Memorial United Methodist Church in Sulphur, Louisiana. At that time we will welcome Rev. Marissa Horvath, who is now serving as the pastor of FUMC, Hammond.
